Cecilia’s Swiss Charm Meets Indian Craft: A Week at Aura Pottery
At Aura Pottery, every artist brings their unique perspective, and Cecilia, a young woman from Switzerland, was no exception. Her impromptu decision to join us for a one-week pottery retreat turned into a magical journey of creativity, learning, and memories.
A Spontaneous Start
Cecilia’s trip to Aura was unplanned, but it became an unforgettable experience. With just a few days in hand, she embraced every moment to the fullest. From the moment she arrived, she radiated enthusiasm and curiosity.
Dressed in her overalls, ready to immerse herself in the art of pottery, Cecilia spent her days exploring the possibilities of clay. Her hands quickly became accustomed to the wheel, where she created beautiful pots with ease. But her talent didn’t stop there—she showed a natural knack for trimming the foot, bringing a refined touch to each piece she worked on.
Creativity Meets Inspiration
What made Cecilia’s work truly special was how she brought her Swiss roots into her designs. She experimented with sgraffito, a decorative technique where patterns are etched into clay, and crafted intricate designs inspired by the Swiss Alps. These pieces reflected her creativity and a sense of connection to her homeland, all while embracing the art of Indian pottery.
Her ability to merge her cultural identity with the techniques she learned at Aura left us inspired. It was a joy to watch her pieces come to life, each one carrying a story of her journey.

A Serene Experience at Aura
While Cecilia spent much of her time in the studio, she also took full advantage of everything Aura Pottery has to offer. Located on an orchard near New Chandigarh, Punjab, our retreat provides a peaceful escape where students and artists can unwind and recharge.
Cecilia stayed in the Potter’s Villa, a cozy space that felt like home. Every meal, freshly prepared with local ingredients, brought the community together. Whether it was a hearty breakfast to start the day or a relaxed dinner under the stars, mealtimes became moments of connection and joy.
When she wasn’t in the studio, Cecilia enjoyed the orchard’s natural beauty, took calming walks in the garden, and relaxed by the pool. She found the perfect balance between productivity and relaxation, a hallmark of the Aura experience.
A Heartfelt Review
Cecilia’s week at Aura left a lasting impression, not just on us but on her as well. Here’s what she had to say about her time with us:
“I cannot recommend @aurapottery more. Staying with them for a week was the most serene and lovely experience. Aura is located on an orchard near New Chandigarh, Punjab. Students and artists stay in the Potter’s Villa and meet for every delicious, home-cooked meal.
The studio has instructors available from 10 AM through 4 PM, and they are incredibly helpful. There is 0 pressure to be in the pottery studio at all times though, and you can enjoy their pool or a walk around their gardens. I seriously cannot recommend the experience more.
Just spent a week here and it was the loveliest experience. The orchard is beautiful, the instructors are so friendly and helpful, the food is amazing, and the accommodation is perfect. Very suitable for beginner potters too!! I highly, highly recommend.”
