This pottery retreat will introduce you to the fundamental techniques of building in clay with the best tools a potter can have – their hands. The week is divided equally between hand building and wheel-throwing. No prior knowledge is required and this course is perfect for beginners.
Techniques we will cover
The studio is a roughly 1000 sq. ft. space, dedicated to the art of ceramics. The inside of the studio is segmented into throwing areas, hand-building spaces, and drying, finishing, and storage areas. It is a modern, well-equipped space with access to all necessary tools. The glazing activity is carried out in the open. All sides of the studio building open onto various courtyards that have other facilities.
Retreat Schedule
Day 1 (Friday) – Upon arrival, take the opportunity to check in, settle into your accommodation, explore the studio and the farm, mingle with fellow participants, meet the dogs and partake in your first pottery session from 11 am to 5 pm.
Days 2 through 5 – These days of the retreat are filled with immersive pottery sessions running from 11 AM to 05 PM. Here, you’ll delve into the fundamentals of pottery while crafting your own unique artistic creations.
Day 6 (Wednesday) – As the retreat draws to a close, it’s time to prepare for departure. Check-out is scheduled for 11 AM following breakfast.
Instructor would be available from Monday to Saturday (11 AM – 5 PM), but guests have access to the studio 24*7.
Pottery Retreat residents stay at the Potters Villa during their time here. The villa is a small building towards the far end of the property; it faces the orchard and is a two-minute walk from the studio. The villa is a cozy space with all rooms opening onto a central lounge where residents get together for meals, music and socializing with other residents, making the retreat a fulfilling experience.
Each room is tastefully furnished and equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a restful and relaxing stay. Sink into the plush beds after a long day of pottery, and refresh yourself in the privacy of your ensuite bathroom, complete with all the essentials to make you feel at home.
